Infinity Ward has confirmed that one of the less popular changes in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 will be removed in the upcoming Season 2 update. Al Mazarh is shrinking the Gulag in order to provide a more traditional Warzone 1 experience.
The sequel to the battle royale originally changed the Gulag from a 1v1 arena to a larger 2v2 fight, with the addition of the minigun wielding "Jailer" NPC opponent. Al Mazarh's Gulag has received negative feedback for forcing players to team up with another random player, as the matchups are frequently made up of randoms, AFK players, or pairings with no communication.
Now, Infinity Ward has tweeted that 1v1 fights are returning with Gulag changes in the Season 2 update. It's unclear whether the return to smaller fights will also remove the Jailer and his minigun, but the developer promises more information in a blog post next week.
This news comes a day after Activision confirmed Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 and Warzone 2 will be delayed by two weeks. Season 2 will now be released on February 15 instead of February 1, giving developers more time to implement changes based on player feedback. Season 2 will also include a new smaller Warzone map and Resurgence mode, in addition to the 1v1 Gulag.
The last major update for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 was the start of Season 1 Reloaded in December. The Chimera assault rifle, Shipment multiplayer map, a new DMZ location, and Call of Duty's first-ever Raid were all included in the mid-season content.
Season 2 will include a completely new battle pass, new weapons, and the next Raid episode. Check out our breakdown of all the rumours and leaks surrounding Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, including the potentially leaked Japanese theme and the return of the Ronin operator.
